Ability to download state from stack

Feature Requests

Allowing to download a stacks state-file locally. Useful for analyzing state-file content, as well as making modifications for later importing. This is useful when a stack might be stuck in a state it can’t refresh, due to bugs in providers or similar.

    Downloading the state should be as easy as uploading the state. Coming from Terraform Enterprise which has this feature I was kind of surprised to find this feature missing from Spacelift. Having to run a command to export the state to an S3 bucket or the like is not really the correct way to have to get the state back out of Spacelift.

    Not sure if I should open a new feature request, but I think this feature request could also be extended to state handling in spacectl.
    What I’m looking for is uploading a state file to spacelift with spacectl.

      Any word on support for this. Recently I had to split a stack’s state into two. I couldn’t do it via spacectl. I had to

      • enable “External state access” on the stack

      • create a terraform config block using remote state

      • run terraform state pull

      • do my work and try to remember to turn off “External state access”

      Why can’t we download the state directly via spacectl if we have admin/writer access or the stack:state-download or stack:state-read permissions?
