Aggregate & summarize Terraform plans across related stacks

Feature Requests

We manage approximately 60 Terraform stacks that are essentially duplicates with minor variations. When we make changes, we need to manually view and approve each plan, which becomes extremely time-consuming and inefficient.

What would be incredibly helpful is a way to aggregate and summarize plan changes across a group of related stacks. Ideally, this feature would:

  • Group stacks by metadata, tags, or structural similarity

  • Show a consolidated diff of plan changes across those stacks

  • Highlight patterns or inconsistencies in the change sets

  • Let us approve or reject runs in bulk when the diffs are identical or low-risk

The current stack summary page only shows individual deltas, which doesn't scale well when managing many stacks that follow the same structure. A higher-level view would drastically improve operational efficiency and reduce the burden on engineers.

    would be great to see a global/aggregated view of what is currently shown under the Tracked Runs and MRs tabs within each stack

    I have a similar two requests that are similar to this

    1. we have a lot of stacks that are updated from the same commit, I’d like to be able to, for changes triggered by the same commit, I’d like to be able to:

    • summarize changes across runs from the same commit (which ones are the same vs different)

    • filter out noise that can be ignored

    1. I have a large stack that iterates over lots of resources, I’d like to be able to summarize changes that can occur to that stack to know which ones are the same (and being applied over the same resource via for_each) vs which ones are different

      one related use case, a git push results in approvals to several stacks, right now, I have to view the stacks one at a time (I think the largest number that I have atm is 20) I would like to be able to see a summarized view of a set of stack runs that require approval to see if they are the same

    Thanks for the detailed request—I completely get how painful this can be at scale.

    For now, the only workaround is to programmatically fetch each run’s logs via the GraphQL API or spacectl, extract the plan diffs, and stitch them together manually. Not ideal, but it does give you the raw data to build your own summaries.

    That said, there is a concept we’ve been exploring internally. @Marcin Wyszynski has something in mind that would enable solving some of those problems —I’ll summon him here to see if it’s a fit.

    One more question from my side - would you want this summary in Spacelift, or exported somewhere?

      I was looking at Graphql for this, and it doesn’t look like I can filter commit id for runs in graphql, it looks like I would have to grab all run details and then filter them out from the CLI?
