Blueprints: Link created stacks to source

Stacks created by Blueprints should have an explicit link to their creating blueprint that’s easy to find. For example, blueprint-created stacks should automatically get a label like `source:

blueprint/ajtest-011-01JX9T6S13755Z5CNTQCVGJQ20`. The presence of this label can be used in the Web UI to link a stack back to the creating Blueprint.

    Good news! This is already solved, just not in Blueprints. Our newer Templates feature maintains a permanent link between a Template and every stack it creates (visible in the Templates Workbench), so you always know which stacks came from which Template/version, and you can update a deployment to a new Template version without manually deleting and recreating stacks.

    One trade-off to be aware of: stacks created from Templates are immutable and can't be edited directly - changes go through updating the Template deployment. If that works for your use case, I'd recommend giving Templates a look.

    • When I update a blueprint (eg to fix a bug) I might want to delete all stacks created with the old version to redeploy them with the new version

    • No. This is an infrequent task

    • Mostly useful to the producer. If consumers need to view a list of blueprints, we can add appropriate tags for them already.

      Alright, thanks for clarification! We will be evaluating weather we do some improvements around blueprints soon, or maybe coming up with a new concept for self service. If we’re sticking to blueprints, I’ll get back to that ticket :)

    Hey Alex! Thanks for submitting that, I would have a few follow up questions, to understand a bit better:

    • Once you would have those stacks visible, how would you use that?

    • Is it something that you do often?

    • Is it something that you need as “producer” of blueprints, or other people could also need it? (E.g. consumers)
