expose broker-level MQTT metrics

since we switched from v2 CloudFormation installer to v3 terraform [including the switch from AWS SQS to built-in MQTT], we have lost:

  • having CloudWatch dashboards out of the box [had to terraform it myself]

  • no MQTT-related metrics are in CloudWatch

Now without having the need to enable telemetry, I would like to request to add broker-level MQTT metrics to CloudWatch.

    You’re right that with v3 we no longer depend on AWS building blocks so some metrics that folks got out of the box are now missing.

    Curious though… It’s been a while since I last carried the Spacelift pager but IIRC for SaaS we don’t really alert on MQTT metrics and I can’t even recall when they were used to investigate anything.


    So before we dive into it, can you please provide some insight into what you’d want to use these metrics for?
