Simplified Policy Authoring – DSL Layer Over Rego

We'd love to see a simplified way to write and maintain policies within Spacelift. Rego is powerful, but its learning curve and readability issues are real blockers to adoption across our team.

What’s Needed:

  • A higher-level policy DSL that compiles to Rego (example: Resourcely’s Guardrails)

  • A visual or markdown-style editor with guardrails that makes it easier to:

    • Understand policy logic at a glance

    • Onboard new engineers into policy creation

    • Avoid syntax and logic errors in raw Rego

Current Pain:

  • Rego is not beginner-friendly and makes it hard for broader teams to contribute.

  • Policy maintenance is limited to a few individuals who are comfortable with it.

Desired Outcome:

A simpler authoring layer would massively increase usage, reduce mistakes, and make Spacelift’s policy engine a true differentiator. We want to keep these workflows inside Spacelift and not look for external tools.
