Terraform Provider Public/Private in UI

It is not currently possible in the UI to:

  1. Create a provider and specify if public/private

  2. Change existing providers to/from public/private

However, the UI does have iconography that shows the public/private status.

Request is to add functionality to the UI to reach partity with the Terraform and GraphQL implementations.

    Thanks for the suggestion. This hasn’t picked up interest since it was filed, and the clarifying questions above went unanswered, so I’m closing it rather than leaving it in limbo. If provider visibility in the UI is still causing confusion for your team, add a comment with the specifics and we’ll revisit.

    We’d love to understand more about the job you’re trying to do here. Are you trying to clarify which providers are internal vs. external, or avoid confusion when selecting from the registry?

    Internally, we sometimes mirror public providers in our private registry as a fallback if upstream sources (like Terraform or OpenTofu registries) become unavailable. It’s a rare edge case, not a primary workflow.

    That’s why we’ve been hesitant to surface this distinction more visibly—so far, it hasn’t come up as a frequent source of confusion. But if it is for you, we’d love to understand when it matters most, and what would help your team feel confident when choosing a provider.
