Custom Workflows are here!

We're thrilled to introduce Custom Workflows.

With this new feature, you can customize the commands being executed in Spacelift’s Terraform workflow, and you also have the option to use a different binary in place of HashiCorp Terraform.

Enjoy the flexibility of full control over what happens inside your Terraform workflow and elevate it to accommodate any special tweaks you may need to make.

You can customize the Terraform workflow commands by providing a .spacelift/workflow.yml file, either through a mounted file (context/environment) or directly from your VCS repository.

To use this new feature, either for a new or an existing Stack, check out the new option in the Backend tab called Workflow tool. By default, the value will be “Terraform FOSS”, but by choosing Custom, you can tell Spacelift to use a custom binary and/or commands.

This feature also allows you to try an early preview of OpenTofu as a drop-in-replacement for HashiCorp Terraform. If you have an existing stack that uses HashiCorp Terraform and you want to switch to OpenTofu, all you need to do is change the backend.

Out-of-the-box support for OpenTofu will be available as soon as the first official release is published. When that happens, OpenTofu will join the range of workflow tools you can choose from.

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
