Introducing OpenTofu support for Terragrunt
🎉 We're excited to announce that our Terragrunt backend has been extended to support OpenTofu!When selecting between Terraform and OpenTofu for your Terragrunt Stacks, Spacelift will automatically download the specified version of your tool when preparing your runs and will set the TERRAGRUNT_TFPATH variable to point at the correct tool. If you have previously set the TERRAGRUNT_TFPATH variable, we will continue to use the value that has been set explicitly.
Apart from now being able to support OpenTofu and Terraform, you also can choose different tools through the Manually provisioned option.For this to work you will need to:
- Make sure that the tool is available for Terragrunt to use (either through a before init hook or custom runner image
- Specify the path to your tool using the terraform_binary Terragrunt option (set the
TERRAGRUNT_TFPATHenvironment variable)
- if you manage your workers through our K8s operator, you won't need to do anything as long as you haven't specified a custom value for the pod.launcherImage property in the Worker Pools
- otherwise: update the launchers before using OpenTofu within your Terragrunt stacks
